2023 Hyundai Genesis G70: What We Know So Far

2023 Hyundai Genesis G70: What We Know So Far

2023 Hyundai Genesis G70 – Hyundai Genesis will probably give its G70 sedan a significant redesign for 2023 that will make it look similar to the larger G80 sibling, which takes style tips from the first Genesis SUV: the GV80.

The New G70 will also get a shooting brake (wagon) model, but we’re not sure if it will head to the U.S. market. In addition, Genesis has confirmed that it will no longer offer manual transmissions on the new G70.

The new look, complete with emblem grille and quad-headlamp settings, is similar to the recently redesigned Genesis G80 2021 sedan and the new GV80 2021 SUV. The horizontal theme continues on the back of the G70 with led taillights, and underneath is a double oval exhaust tip and a body-color rear diffuser.

The Genesis G70 2023 represents a heavy cosmetic refresher of the same sedan that has been sold for years. The emerging luxury brand’s design language, which debuted on the larger G80 and G90 sedans, as well as the new GV80 crossover SUV, has been applied to interesting effects.

Replacing the more common old G70 face and tail end style are twin-bar front and rear lighting elements that bifurcate headlights and taillights, as well as a bolder, pointier new chain-mail mesh grille.

The front fender seems to have taken on a more sculptural aesthetic, while a new little vent lives just behind each front wheel and picks up the chamfer that is on the side door of the G70. In the same vein, the new headlights and taillights align with the G70’s sharp shoulder folds that stretch just above the doorknob from nose to tail.

It sounds clichéd, but the clean effects of the G70 2023 visual enhancement make it appear longer and slimmer than before, although the body shell and hardpoint do not change.

2023 Hyundai Genesis G70 Specs

A 10.3-inch infotainment screen is standard on the G70 2023, and the new model also comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities. The rest of the interior gets a simpler update as well, and Genesis flips the wireless charging pad into a horizontal layout to fit the larger phone.

Despite sharing its base with the Kia Stinger, the 2023 G70 kicks the luxury of its quotient up a notch and proves that the Genesis brand is a credible competitor in the entry-luxury segment. Going head-to-head with sports sedan leaders like the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-class requires an athletic chassis and a luxury cabin — two things that happen to be the strength of the G70.

Not only does it provide driving pleasure and a well-trimmed interior, but the smallest Genesis sedan is also exemplary for the brand’s low prices, coming in a few thousand dollars cheaper than its key German rival. Not to mention its standard 10-year warranty package, which is more than double what most entry-luxury cars offer.

Genesis has given its entry-luxury G70 sedan a makeover for 2023, which includes updated front and rear styles as well as interior tweaks that bring the car visually in line with the new G80 sedan and GV80 SUV. Genesis has also addressed one of our grievances within the G70 for 2023 with a new, larger, and more premium infotainment display.

2023 Hyundai Genesis G70 Engine

The base G70 2.0T is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that delivers 252 horsepower via an eight-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels; all-wheel drive is optional. The engine feels booked around town, and the acceleration time is normal.

However, our heart missed a beat when we were behind the wheel of the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6 model, with 365 ponies and 376 lb-ft of torque. We spent some personal time with the 3.3T rear-drive and were hit by an engine thrust wave that sent it from zero to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds in testing. The G70 has expertly balanced travel and handling characteristics.

The suspension smooths the uneven surface, and the sedan remains composed during a spirited cornering session. The more powerful 3.3T has adaptive damper benefits that allow drivers to improve travel if necessary, but every G70 we drive does an amazing job of sending information into the driver’s hands. The steering feedback is precise and enjoyable, with customizable effort available by switching between multiple drive modes.

The G70 provides a luxurious experience, with attractive materials and excellent build quality. Its driver-centered layout and direct controls cater to driving enthusiasts. Likewise, high-end brightwork and decoratively sewn surfaces on our test cars attract our affluent side.

The event also keeps things classy by avoiding the urge to plaster fake carbon fiber pieces and flat-bottom steering wheels into the cabin, and the result is an interior that seems more luxurious than an Alfa Romeo Giulia or Jaguar XE. The front seats achieve a nice balance between comfort and exercise, the back seats are compromised by limited legroom.

We managed to put five carry-on bags in the G70 luggage, and a total of 14 with folded rear seats. The cubby storage interior includes a handy tray on the front of the center console that is perfect for smartphones and other small items. Unfortunately, the door pockets are small, and the middle console trash can has no organization.

Each G70 comes with a standard 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that stands out from a clean dashboard. Settings include desired features, such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities. We’ll know more about the G70 2023 infotainment offer closer to the car sales Date.

Genesis G70 Fuel Economy

With powertrains and rear or all-wheel drive options, the G70 range has different EPA-rated city and highway estimates. The all-wheel-drive 3.3T is rated the most inefficient, at 17 mpg city and 25 highways; rear-drive 2.0T is the most efficient, at 22 mpg city and 30 highway.

We’ve tested two different versions of the Genesis sports sedan on our 75 mph highway fuel-economy test route, and the results are similar — despite the significant 3.3T power advantage. The 3.3T rear-wheel drive we tested gained 29 mpg; the 2.0T all-wheel-drive model gets 31 mpg.

Genesis G70 Safety

The G70 was named the Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which is the highest honor of an independent collision test agency awarded. However, the incident has not been evaluated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

This sports sedan offers several standard driver assistance technologies, such as adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology and advanced collision warning with automatic emergency braking. Key security features include:

  • Standard automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection;
  • Standard line departure warnings and line guard assistance;
  • Standard adaptive cruise control

Hyundai Genesis G70 Release Date and Price

The 2023 Genesis G70 will probably go on sale in South Korea and should follow in the U.S., starting at more than $37,000, sometimes by the end of the year or early next year.
