2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy – The Santa Fe 2022 Calligraphy has competitive performance, flexible driving, high-quality interiors, outstanding fit and finish in the top version, and excellent safety ratings. The latest Santa Fe style is sharper and taller – boxier – and also looks more sturdy.
A 2.4-liter inline-4 that produces 185 horsepower is standard enough to motivate Santa Fe to nearly 3,600 pounds.
But the optional 2.0-liter turbo-4 with 235 horsepower is much more suited to the task. The 8-speed automatic transmission delivers smooth gear shifting, while the front-wheel-drive is a standard and all-wheel drive is available.

The Santa Fe 2022 received a five-star crash test rating from the federal government, and the 2021 model earned a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS.
For 2022, some of the desired active safety features such as rear traffic alerts and automatic rear braking are no longer standard; now, they are limited to the SEL trim and on it. Automatic emergency braking remains standard.
Also, for 2022, two models have been discontinued, SEL Plus and Ultimate. Model Limited gets more packages and features, such as blind-spot monitors, to compensate for the ultimate loss.
Hyundai Santa Fe occupies an odd space between the compact and mid-sized SUV classes. This is right between the two segments in terms of price, size, and feature availability.
It offers a little more space than most compact crossovers, but it’s at a price point that makes it a little more palatable than buying a larger SUV.
This gives Santa Fe a strong value proposition, and the significantly updated 2022 model is even more attractive than its predecessor.
Hyundai Santa Fe 2022 is refreshed, with a new rectangular grille clamped outside and accented with vertically oriented LEDs.
There is also a new T-shaped taillight design, with a horizontal light bar connecting the two taillights. Completing the interior repair list is a larger touch screen, and the transmission selector button is moved to the derailleur.

Santa Fe is all-new under the hood. The slightly larger 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine produces 191 horsepower and 182 lb-ft of torque, a slight increase of 6 hp and four lb-ft compared to last year’s 2.4-liter engine. Fuel savings have also improved slightly.
The EPA estimates the Santa Fe 2022 front-wheel drive with this engine will get 26 mpg in combined driving, compared with 25 mpg last year.
The upgraded Santa Fe engine is now a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 277 hp and 311 lb-ft – a significant bulge from the previous turbo-four and 235 hp and 260 lb-ft. Hyundai says it’s also more efficient.
Indeed, the EPA says it expects 25 mpg combined with the FWD, just one mpg less than the FWD base engine. The machine comes as standard on the new Calligraphy trim, which considers the layered leather upholstery and head-up look among its many additions.
Also new for 2022 is the hybrid model. It has a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine and a hybrid system to produce a combined 225 horsepower.
Power is transmitted to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. Unfortunately, there was no official fuel economy estimate at the time of publication of our review. Our expectation is a combined of about 35-40 mpg.
It’s a very significant change, but it’s a competitive class, and Santa Fe has a lot of established competition on its hands.
The Honda CR-V, a perennial favorite, has been upgraded with a hybrid version, and the Mazda CX-5 continues to offer a stylish and sturdy alternative. The new Santa Fe has to perform impressively on several levels to make a strong show.

The 2022 models are SE, SEL, and Limited.
Priced at about $25,000, the SE model comes with upholstery, 17-inch wheels, Bluetooth, a 7.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto bumper-to-5-year-old / 60,000-mile automatic emergency braking from Hyundai.
A bumper warranty is still an advantage over the competition. SEL adds a power driver, heated front seat, and keyless start.
Option packs include leather upholstery, premium audio, and dual-zone climate control; The Comfort and Premium package adds features such as an 8.0-inch touchscreen, premium audio, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, an ambient-view camera system, heated steering wheel, wireless phone charger, head-up display, and automatic wipers. Most of them come standard in Limited. Fully loaded, it costs nearly $40,000.
The Santa Fe 2022 looks luxurious, with the adoption of two-tier headlights from other Hyundai lineups. Handsome and distinctive, with his upright profile.
Even the SE gets a 17-inch rim like the Limited and receives the same chrome trim and plastic body cladding.

Unlike the outside of the box, the inside is curved, with a comprehensive dashboard that wraps the driver and passenger separately.
The 7.0-inch (8.0-inch infotainment screens on SEL and Limited) are front and center, while climate control is easily accessible and clear to read. There’s good storage with cubes.
Fabric upholstery is standard, and leather is optional, but both feel a bit thin and thin. Otherwise, the interior is of high quality, with contrast stitching and fine materials. The front seat is still comfortable, thanks to the ample cushioning.
Five adults have enough Santa Fe space thanks to the increased wheelbase and nearly three inches in length. There’s plenty of room for the hind legs – over 40 inches.
There’s a lot of cargo space behind the back seat – 36 cubic feet. With the rear seat folded flat, that almost doubled to 71 cubic feet. There is a power liftgate available, making the ample space easily accessible.
The Santa Fe comes with a 2.4-liter inline-4 that produces 185 horsepower. This simple machine isn’t fast but makes the 3,600-pound Santa Fe move.
The acceleration of the available 2.0-liter turbo-4 235-hp engine is far superior. The front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel purpose is general for each model.

The best dynamic thing about Santa Fe is its fun ride. It’s tranquil with an optional self-leveling rear suspension, which adds confidence to the puller.
Hyundai Santa Fe 2022 has grown and is getting more sophisticated. The available turbo-4 engines excite enthusiasm, and the cab features high-quality materials and superior technology, including an easy-to-use infotainment system.

If you’re paying more than $40,000 for a non-prestige crossover, it’s hard to ignore this new duo. Still, you have to look around—and pass—their bodies that are too big to get good things.
The new Santa Fe has a classic crossover outline, but it’s cut and stamped excessively, with plenty of busy lines trying to make it look sporty.
The Frenetic Sorento in its way, with its fillips and metallic trim flags, and electric razor grill. We want to tell them both to calm down.

Santa Fe may have realized that. The cabin features candy-shaped vents, a prominent touchscreen, a low dash set. Beautiful layered Nappa leather and luxurious headliners provide a calm and soothing tone in its highest Calligraphic specs.
Sorento is still trying to get out of the caffeine rumors: his center console has a game-controlling aesthetic, with trimmed bat wing vents and plenty of fingerprint-friendly gloss black trim, even in the top X-line frame.
2022 KIA Sorento
Calligraphy and the X-Line share a high-end turbo-4. The Sorento and Santa Fe still come on an inline-4 basis, and both now have Hybrid editions.
The double clutch isn’t perfect, but it spins into the sport’s beautiful and impressive driving mode. The power rating is almost identical, at 277 hp for Hyundai, 281 hp for Kia.
Both the X-Line and Calligraphy have all-wheel drive, and the wheels are up to 20 inches in size, so the steering is also not suitable; ride quality remains the best reason to recommend.
Both are appropriate and quiet, although the suspension noise is never more than a challenging role, and although both are better at high-speed damping than low-speed wheel control.
If you need to bring seven people, the Sorento SX X-Line is the only option here. Please make at least two of them small.
Sorento has a tiny third-row seat that seems incapable of handling humans out of the larval stage; The Santa Fe is two rows for five people, with no Sorento second-row sliding seats or second-row captain’s seats available.
Four adults can fit in quickly, and the leather-plated top model has heated and cooled front seats, folding rear seats, and more than 70 cubic feet of cargo space on a nearly flat payload floor — not to mention the powered rear doors available.
Both the Sorento 2022 and Santa Fe 2022 have standard automatic emergency braking, but Hyundai also has common adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitors, and automatic headlights; Kia improves adaptive cruise control capabilities blind-spot monitors on the bottom trim.
Calligraphy and X-Line models get all that, plus a head-up display and surround-view camera system. Both also come with an incredible 5-year/60,000-mile warranty, but Santa Fe gives a bonus of 3 years / 36,000 miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance.
The $43,285 Santa Fe calligraphy (unless you want a 20-inch wheel, in this case, $43,485) also has a 12.3-inch digital screen, a 10.3-inch touchscreen with navigation, a full front passenger seat, a panoramic sunroof, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio. The $43,765 Sorento X-Line gets a portion of it but has 12-speaker Bose audio.
Both crossover SUVs scored 6.8 out of 10, with identical ratings in each category. They’re not so different from each other as they are from rivals like the Ford Edge or Honda Passport, but there are essential differences in style, seating, and service that no shopper should escape.
